Respecting Character

Image
Too many modern games fail to create real depth in their characters and often create a character that has already been made before, even if the art is a bit different. There are many stories of a character whose main purpose in life is saving a "damsel in distress" or simple revenge. Of course, there are some games that take these stereotypical characters with stories and turn them into something else, but they are few and far between. What games are missing right now are brand new stories that have not been traveled before? These types of stories are hard to create as there is rarely any basis for them and will require the writer to make the story from scratch. One such game is This Is the Police .  The Physical Character        The game starts off with the mayor telling Police Chief Jack Boyd that his son was looking for a spot in the government and that he thought Police Chief would be a great spot for him. Boyd disagr...

The Uncanny Valley

Image
The uncanny valley is the point between something being obviously not human, and it being human. This valley can cause viewers to become distraught as they try to wrap their heads around what they have seen. Animators for both movies and video games have been struggling with this for a while. One telltale sign to look for whether or not a character falls into this is to watch its movement. If the appearance of the character is meticulously accurate, but the movement is just subpar, it will fall into the uncanny valley. However, if the movement of the character is done incredibly well, but the appearance does not seem to fit the context of its environment, it will also fall into the uncanny valley. Avoiding the Uncanny Valley: Pre-Existing Character                One of the simplest and commonly used ways to avoid the uncanny valley is to use humanoid characters, but give them non-humanoid characteristics. Once the concept art has be...

Description For my meme, I found a picture of a confused Donald Trump who had wandered away from his limo. Seeing as how Mr. Trump has been doing so much golfing and how little he knows about Puerto Rico, I thought that it would be funny to combine the two. I then found a picture of Puerto Rico after the destruction of Hurricane Irma. I cut out out the Confused Trump and put it over the Puerto Rico background. I then added the text "When you get off a Puerto Rico and not the golf course." Final Meme PhotoShop Image In PhotoShop I used the quick selection tool to cut out Trump and then I duplicated the layer onto the Puerto Rico background.

Introduction Last Sunday I went to Belews lake to go jet skiing with a couple friends. I knew that I had this forum post coming up so I wanted to get a picture while I was out. I stopped in this cove-like area and had my friend Max snap this shot because my phone had died earlier. Swatches For the swatches, I took the darker green color of the lake, the lighter green color of the tree leaves, and the lighter brown color of the bark (and dying trees). I then took those 3 colors and tinted them to 75% and then to 50%. Nameplates For the nameplate, I took the non-tinted 3 colors and put them as a background. Then I took a color I didn't use for my name, and then the last color for the headline. Overall, I do like the nameplates. I think the last one is my favorite, however.  Conclusion In conclusion, I had fun doing this assignment. I'm excited to see where this new concept of swatches takes me and how I can improve. I think I could have had...

Point 1: Fonts There isn't much to say here, this brochure uses fonts well. The headers are all the same, bold, font. The text within the sections is all the same basic font as well. The header font is very professional, as a university employment brochure should be. Point 2: Colors Well, this is a High Point University brochure so the main colors we will be seeing is purple and white. Having purple and while allows this brochure to express a good range of light and dark colors. Point 3: Contrast There is not much opportunity for contrast in this brochure. The only good contrast I notice is the very common black text on a white background. Point 4: Tri-Fold Tips This is a basic tri-fold brochure. First, the cover is appealing as that it entices people who are looking for student employment at High Point University. The photo is probably showing an interaction between a potential employee and an employer. When I opened up the brochure the first thing...

The Good The example I have chosen for a "good" example is Figure 11-5, "Paul's Last Days." I like this photostory because it has a large leading photo and the photos flow together. The white space is also pushed to the sides and the space in between the photos seem to be similar. It looks like all of the photos of context underneath the photo, except for the bottom right photo. It also states that this is the second page, so there are probably enough photos to portray the story. I think this is a great representation for a photostory. The Bad The example I have chosen for a "bad" example is Figure 11-10, "Blood, Sweat, and Gears." I dislike this photostory because there is no obvious lead photo. I also feel that there is a lot of white space spread throughout the photo, and not just pushed to the edges. There is also no context for each of the photos so the readers don't understand the underlying meaning of the ...

Original Photo This photo was taken from the bridge from Cottrell to the amphitheater. I thought that this photo would look better if I brightened it up a bit and enhanced the colors. Photoshopped Photo First, I used the 'curves' adjustment tool to brighten up the photo a bit. It was a little cloudy the day I took this photo so I think this edit helped a lot.  Then, I used the 'color balance' tool to make the photo a bit more blue to make the water really pop. I also added a bit of green to make the plants around the water pop out as well. Once I liked the overall coloring of the photo I used the cropping tool to crop out man-made structures such as the buildings, cars, and the lamp post.  This assignment shows how much you can do to photos knowing the very basics of photoshop. I can't wait to learn more!
